If you have a query, compliment or complaint about a sport or active recreational organisation:

How to make a complaint about a local sport or active recreation organisation

First attempt to resolve the issue locally by contacting the organisation directly. If necessary, request information from the organisation regarding their complaints procedure.

If you are unhappy with the handling of a complaint

  • If the organisation is local government owned or funded you should direct your complaint to the relevant local government. Contact details for your local government can be found in our Local Government Directory.
  • If you wish to complain further about an Active Recreation Center run by the Department of Communities, please contact the Department.
  • If the organisation or activity is funded by another government agency, please contact the relevant agency directly.
  • If the organisation is not local or state government funded you may wish to send your complaint to the relevant sport or recreational activity State Body. A comprehensive list of these organisations and their contact details is available in the Sport and Recreation Organisational Database.
  • If you feel that the organisation may have breeched your Statutory Rights, you may wish to contact the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). There are local officers throughout Queensland. For more information you may telephone 13 13 04 or alternatively visit the OFT website at www.fairtrading.qld.gov.au/.
  • If you feel the organisation is compromising the welfare of a child you should contact the Commission for Children, Young People and Child Guardian (CCYPCG). Complaints can be made by phoning the Commission on 1800 688 275 (freecall) or (07) 3247 5525. Alternatively you may write to PO Box 12671, Brisbane, Queensland 4003. For further information please refer to the CCYPCG website at www.ccypcg.qld.gov.au.
  • If you are concerned that you may be being discriminated against on grounds such as gender, race, disability, age or for any other reason you may wish to contact the Anit-Discrimination Commission Queensland (ADCQ). They can be contacted statewide on 1300 130 670 or by visiting the ADCQ website at www.adcq.qld.gov.au for further information.
