Get Active Queensland!

Sport and Recreation is proactively working towards helping Queenslanders become more active.

As the lead agency responsible for implementing the Queensland Government's sport and recreation policies, we work with sporting organisations, councils, schools, Indigenous organisations and the wider community to increase participation, develop better skills in the industry and create better places and opportunities for sport and recreation.

How do we do this?

Helping Queenslanders get active

We encourage regular physical activity through sport and active recreation by:

  • Creating programs and resources to promote and deliver opportunities for community participation in physical activity.
  • Offering funding programs that help local governments, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander councils and community organisations deliver sport and recreation facilities, skills development and participation programs.
  • Developing community based programs and services aimed at getting people and communities active.

A strong sport and recreation sector

We build a strong sport and recreation sector by:

  • Providing strategic advice and services to the sector;
  • Developing strategies to support industry development;
  • Offering funding programs and business tools to help the sector effectively deal with emerging challenges;
  • Working with the sector to identify new business development opportunities for Queensland.

Positioning Queensland as a premier sporting destination

We work with key stakeholders to position Queensland as a premier sporting destination by:

  • Identifying and maximising opportunities for Queensland to attract national and international sporting events;
  • Providing advice and services to support the development of international standard sport and recreation facilities;
  • Promoting Queensland as a destination of choice for international training and competition.
